MY TOWN

When I noticed the exit sign for Cleveland, Tennessee, on Interstate 75 on my first road trip from Cleveland, Ohio, to Florida in the late 1970s, I knew I wanted to stop there one day. I finally did in the early 1990s, after my son joined a Christian drama ministry based in the Tennessee city 20 miles north of Chattanooga.

Since then I've made many trips to Tennessee's Cleveland. I've watched with wonder as that community has grown, while my Cleveland - Cleveland, Ohio - has lost large chunks of its population to the suburbs.

I learned about other Clevelands in the United States through the Internet and began taking side trips to other Clevelands, while en route to other destinations. So far I've been to Clevelands in Ohio (of course), Tennessee (as I said), New Mexico (where I have attended some Great Obituary Writers Conferences), Oklahoma, Arkansas, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Indiana.

While visiting the different Clevelands, I usually take pictures of the local Clevelanders, the sites and any sign in which the word "Cleveland" appears.

I also pick up indigenous stones from each Cleveland to add to my collection of, ahem, "Cleveland Rocks!"

As far as I can tell, California doesn't have a city, town, village or unincorporated community called Cleveland. But it does have the Cleveland National Forest, which I once visited briefly.

It is my goal to visit every Cleveland in the United States. It'll take years to accomplish that. In the meantime, I want to learn what I can about the Clevelands of America. I'm in the process of setting up pages devoted to the various Clevelands. You can click on the Clevelands I have posted on the lefthand side of this page.
